Michael Jackson’s $300 Million Legacy

Michael Jackson’s $300 Million Legacy

By Lauren Bayne Anderson

Michael Jackson died Thursday after going into cardiac arrest, at the age of 50. While no one disputes he was the King of Pop, what you may not have known is that he was a big philanthropist — to the tune of $300 million — to various charities. And a chunk of that went to scholarships.

In fact, in the Millennium-Issue of the “Guinness Book Of Records” Jackson was recognized as the Pop Star who supports the most charity organizations.

In 1986 Jackson gave $1.5 million to set up the "Michael Jackson UNCF Endowed Scholarship Fund”, aimed at students majoring in performance art and communications, with money given each year to students attending a member United Negro College Fund college or university. The scholarship has helped hundreds of students attend college.

Jackson also contributed to the Cities and Schools Scholarship Fund and many other charities aimed at education and special needs children.

The following is a list of some of the charities he publicly helped, taken from AllMichaelJackson.com:

  • AIDS Project L.A.
  • American Cancer Society
  • Angel Food
  • Big Brothers of Greater Los Angeles
  • BMI Foundation, Inc.— Support music education for gifted youngsters.
  • Brotherhood Crusade

Thank you, someone has finally spoken about the positive things he did as opposed to delving into trying to find what negative things may have occurred. While we all have the right to do that, when will mankind learn to appreciate the good that is within each of us. None of us are exempt from mistakes so let's thank God that Michael Jackson passed our way and did the positive things that he did. FOREVER REMEMBERING YOU. THANK YOU FOR ALL THE BARRIERS YOU BROKE DOWN. R.I.P.!

I agree with everyone posting, he seemed like very generous, caring, loving and kind person. It's a shame people only see him for the bad thing's. It's also so very sad, to see all his"friends" coming out and speaking to the media/magazines about him and his problems. God bless him, his kid's and his family.

Michael Jackson was a good man. He helped others from the kindness of his heart. I will always love him forever, he's a living legend. Nobody can make just about everyone proud like MJ did, thats why its so hard to say good-bye. REST MICHAEL, REST!

That is really nice of Michael Jackson to donate to a lot of these organizations. He has a very compassionate heart! I am sorry that Michael had to die so earl in age, but he is in peace now.
