Voice of Democracy Audio Essay Contest $30,000
“Does America Still Have Heroes?” If you’ve got an answer to that question, it could win you $30,000 in scholarship money.
The Veterans of Foreign Wars of the United States is asking high school students all across the country to submit an audio tape of their answer on heroes in America. An applicant from each state will be selected for an all-expense-paid trip to Washington D.C. where they will compete for the grand prize of a $30,000 scholarship.
Amount: $30,000
Deadline: November 1, 2009
Age: High school grades 9 – 12 through the 2009-2010 school year.

i participated in this competition my freshman year, and i won $75. it was definately worth it, and i'm looking forward to doing this again this year.

This sounds cool but I wonder if the sponnserers being veeterans have any say in the judging because if they do then it almost has to be Pro-Military

I agree with the poster below... Im 26 & finally FINALLY going after my dreams & its a risky road & many of these really good scholarships are for High school seniors. Two Ive seen so far having to do with America which is a very strong subject for me that I am passionate about & only HS students can apply. Wish all those the best on your essays!!! :)

There are many people, like myself, who are re-entering the academic world for retraining due to the current economic situation. Because I am an older student, who has been working, I don't qualify for any grants or assistance of any kind - just unsubsidized loans. It would be nice if there were more opportunities for people like me instead of all the high school kids or people under 25. Doesn't anyone want to help the older, more mature student who has the wisdom of life and the real world behind them?
