America's Top Internships

America's Top Internships

Explore some of America's top internships.

By Kathryn Knight

Each year, the Vault Guide to Top Internships profiles internships across the country and determines which are most lucrative. The internships are then tiered from highest to lowest based on a variety of factors, such as substantive work, pay, perks, selectivity, and the “resume radiance” factor. Additionally, the Vault Guide provides the Top Ten Internships for each year.

For the “best and brightest” or for those with pure ambition, we’ve included some of the past top ten internships featured in the Vault Guide:

Academy of Television Arts and Sciences
Apple
Citi
Google
INROADS
Morris Arboretum
NIH
Northwestern Mutual Financial Network
PricewaterhouseCoopers
XM Radio

Most of these internships are known for pampering interns. For example, Google offers free food and massages, Citi typically offers between 80-90% of its interns full-time employment; INROADS offers professional coaching and academic support after the internship is completed.

Getting information on these top internships is easy—just check out their websites. Landing one of these for the summer, however, is not as simple. These internships demand the best and typically ask that you have some prior academic or work expertise in their respective fields. For example, Google will only take on interns that are majoring in computer science and have experience tackling tough projects.

Although those perks are enticing, it is also the prestige of these programs that draw students. The Academy of Television Arts and Sciences, INROADS, and Northwestern Mutual Financial Network have been on the Vault Top Ten List for twelve consecutive years.
