Where to Find Obama’s Stimulus Plan Jobs

Where to Find Obama’s Stimulus Plan Jobs

Compiled from Monster.com

Just graduated college and can’t find a job? You’re not alone.

You’ve probably heard about all the money President Obama has dumped into the economy, but chances are you haven’t seen it first hand. So, where are all the jobs?

President Obama’s American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (aka the Stimulus Plan) is expected to save or create 3.5 million jobs over the next two years.

The plan also includes provisions to help both employed and unemployed Americans: 95 percent of workers and their families will receive the Making Work Pay tax cut of up to $1,000, and millions of unemployed workers will receive an additional $100 in unemployment benefits per month. The plan also includes funding to help unemployed workers pay for COBRA health care coverage.

While the stimulus is designed to create jobs across the economy, four strategic sectors are receiving the majority of stimulus funding targeted for job creation. This is where the jobs are!

Well, I am apart of the stimulus program, I am currently studying a field different from my past work experience. I feel like the update in my education is going to help me become a greater asset to any employer. Even if I can't find a job in my new profession right away. Having the update in education gives me something to fall back on. Now instead of looking for a job in my area of experience. I will have two areas where I can try to find a job. And yes I may have to do an interenship at first but "so what". I need to get off my tail and do something positive...ultimately it's your life and you have to do the best you can with what you have and not complain about everything. Stay Positive People...

OUCH! Pointed and sharp comments for sure but I have to admit I'd agree with the general feeling and sentiment behind them! Yet as someone who's been in the workforce more than 30 years and now unemployed but in the process of transferring into education and starting my own graphic design business, don't be fooled into thinking 'experience' alone will get a job. Many of my friends have years of experience and can't buy a job! The 'elephant' in the room/workplace no one is talking about is the bias against accumulated work experience regardless of age but usually starting around 38 or 39. Cutting pension plans, 401k's of baby boomer's, etc keeps company profits high. I can't help but be reminded of Charles Dickens' England and how we paralell it in some ways on a socio-economical level. England is our role-model in more ways than we often realize and so we're just following in the steps of history.

Whether you realize it or not, your so-called lack of experience is a valued asset and commodity in the work place. Learn to see it as a strength opposed to a weakness and use it to your advantage! Throughout your working lives you'll always going to be starting over in one way or another (look at my story); be it due to a promotion or a layoff.

None the less, it will be your drive, passion, boldness, ingenuity and preparing for the opportunity (it truly does favor those who are prepared) that will get you in the door and possibly get you the job. Sure you have questions on how to do this, but isn't this what your education was for: to learn and understand how to critically and analytically problem solve and think outside the box?!

As for the economy—yes it has been plundered but not by force or politicians alone. Yes offers were made to us we didn't refuse but over all it was done by "we the people" (all the people) via the collective lack of focus! We got distracted and sold out for bling, status, houses, better stockportfolios, the high-life, vacations, etc... instead of speaking out. For way to long we've all been caught up in a collective thought of greed, gain and blame along with the occasional Michael-gate, Brittany-gate, Paris-gate and any other type of real or imagined 'gate' distraction. We all made the choice to go to the party and dance to the tune so now we all have to pay (bless those paying the most in Iraq and Afghanistan), anyone have a dime?

Regardless of one's position - student, graduate, employed or unemployed - we're all left facing the same in the marketplace of to few meaningful jobs for far to many people! One used to go to school to get an education and a better job, now you go to school just to get a job to get by—any job!

So if we must be angry, we have no one to be angry at but ourselves—and we shouldn't spend to much time doing that. We might want to channel the same energy into something more constructive i.e. a better resume, community service, civic pride and responsibility, etc. The sooner we start the sooner our situation changes. With the new president and a so-called new beginning hopefully we'll all pay attention this time to what really matters along with holding him/us accountable — "we the people!"

So let's get to it and do it because we can, and will, so keep the faith!

As an educator working with individuals of all ages trying to be trained or retrained I have to say the WroxanaG has a very good question. In a recent report to the government on the outcome of the training paid for under various government programs, those being trained found the same problem; you need experience as well as education. Perhaps an internship component needs to be added to the training benefits although a minimum experience required is usually three years; pretty long for an internship. Obviously more research needs to be done by those voting for these training packages BEFORE such decisions are made to spend money on people who STILL can't get work.

What a joke this "stimulus" package is. While I agree with Keenan the pity is the truth of the statement. These are jobs that have been available and trends have pointed toward them, the problem is you can get the education but the experience is the stronghold. How is someone with a recent degree going to make it in a job that requires 10 years experience?
Obama needs to live and work in the real world not the DC Land politicians have created.

This article should be titled "Where to find jobs making money that was forcibly plundered from taxpayers by a coercive criminal organization operating under the pretense of being a legitimate government" but the other title is shorter I guess.
