Before They Were Prez: Job Tips from Our Founding Fathers

Fondly known as the “Veto President,” Cleveland got off to a rocky start as a high school and college dropout but he later rallied and entered into law school while also apprenticing at a local law firm. His integrity and hardworking nature as a lawyer won the favor of the town and no doubt paved the way for his nomination as sheriff of the county.

Cleveland went on to serve as the 22nd and 24th president’s of the United States, the only leader to hold such an honor.

Moral of the story: Don’t ever judge a book by its cover. Whether you are looking for a job or work as a hiring manager, don’t make the mistake of overlooking a potentially fantastic candidate because of lack of experience, educational or otherwise. If you think someone may have the chops, let them lend a hand on a consulting or project basis to see how they do. You don’t want to miss any diamonds in the rough.
